"An Organization Promoting the Independence and Dignity of Retirement"

At the 26th Annual Christmas party, Manuel 'Manney' Robles, left, accepts the gavel as Big Sir from Art Bertolero, for 2009.

The Branch Executive Committee meets on the First Thursday of the month in the the American Legion Ambulance Training Room at 9:00 am.  All interested members of SIR 96 are invited to attend.

Amador Branch 96 in Jackson currently has a membership of 219, which meets on the first Thursday of each month.  The meeting includes a luncheon prepared by the staff of the St. Sava Mission, which is located on Broadway across the street from the Buy & Sell Press Building.  The program, usually a speaker, also includes a business meeting.  Chairmen of Travel/Tours, Golf, Bowling, RV travel and Fishing groups report on their activities.

Although most of the members arrive early for socializing and “attitude adjustment,” lunch is served at 11:45.  The luncheon is usually over by 1:30. There are no dues or membership fees; it’s just an opportunity to meet new friends, renew acquaintances and get involved in one of the many activities available in the Branch.

Each year, special events such as a picnic and a Christmas party, include wives and friends. The Branch is famous for these parties and usually have a large attendance.

Amador Branch 96 was founded by Dan Rothenbush.  He organized the Branch August 6, 1981 and with the help of 25 friends got it officially charted with the state Sons in Retirement on April 20, 1982.  He was the Big Sir for the first two years, 1981 and 1982.  In 1994, Dan Rothenbush received a Certificate for Honorary Lifetime Membership because of his leadership and continued support.
