Amador County Branch 96 - Jackson, California |

Amador County’s Page Amador County, which is located in the central Mother Lode “Goldrush” country of California, is traversed by State Route 49 as it winds through the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The area’s quaint towns, which reflect their historic gold mining heritage, include Jackson, Sutter Creek, Amador City, Plymouth and Ione. Antique stores and grape vineyards have replaced the saloons as well as the timber and mining industry of yesteryear. As a gateway to the ski slopes of Kirkwood and nearby Lake Tahoe, year-round State Route 88 passes through a vast high country of pristine lakes, historic trails, mountain streams and jagged peaks. After climbing over Kit Carson Pass, the nationally designated “Most Scenic” highway terminates just over the state line in Nevada near Gardnerville, Minden and Carson City.
