One-Eye Golf Tournament “It was a real eye opener for the Sons In Retirement Branch 15/96 Golf Club members as they swung their clubs at the little white ball with one eye covered with a patch. The One-Eye tournament was played at Castle Oaks in honor of member Gene Young who permanently wears an eye-patch. “It sure gave us a great appreciation for the problems Gene faces every day, especially on the links”, Club President Ray Lindstrom stated. Sam Mazza is the Tournament Chairman for the club. Winners of the Two-man best-ball tournament were Dwight Foyel and Ray Lindstrom, with the low net of 59. In a very close second place were Howard Blethen and Stan Rasmussen right behind them with a score of 60. And rolling up in third place were Steve Curl and John Binnall, winning in a playoff with two other teams with a net of 62. Nearly dropping it in the hole and winning closest to Pin 16 was Sam Mazza measured at 1’-10”. Lindstrom said, “It was a fun day and made for many laughs, which at our age, is the most important.”
The golf club, a combination of golfers from our Chapter and Up-County Chapter 15, starts 2011 with an active membership of 64. January, February and March play will be each Tuesday, weather permitting, at various courses in the area. April play will fund us returning to Mace Meadows, our "mountain" home course, with the "Knickers' tournament on April 19th followed by the 5 club tournament in May. We also have special tournaments in June and August plus a play- away to Nevada in July and Club Championship play the month of October. All golfers are welcome.
