SIR 15/96 Golf

SIR Golf Club comprises of members from Branch 96 and Branch 15 of Amador County. Their Home Course is Mace Meadows, utilizing other courses in the area when winter conditions preclude play at Mace Meadows.

The club plays each Tuesday and any SIR who wishes to play golf is welcome and is encouraged to participate.

There are now over 70 members and the club is growing. We have been able to play weekly at Lockeford Springs, Wildhawk, La Contenta and Greenhorn courses. We will be returning to our home course, Mace Meadows, this spring when the temperatures warm. Besides our weekly play, we have several fun events planned for the year including a play-away in Nevada. If you like golf, enjoy the friendship of fellow SIR members and are not a member of the golf, you should definitely consider joining us. If you are a member of the Northern California Golf Association, (NCGA) the cost to join is only $5 yearly. It costs $35 to join the NCGA.

Golf …Love It or Hate It

In my hand I hold a ball ...white and dimpled, rather small

Oh, how bland it does appear ...this harmless looking little sphere

By its size, I could not guess ...the awesome strength it does possess

But since I fell beneath its spell ...I’ve wandered through the fires of hell

My life has not been quite the same ...since I chose to play this stupid game

It rules my mind for hours on end ...a fortune it has made me spend

It has made me swear and yell and cry ...I hate myself and want to die

It promises a thing called par ...if I can hit, straight and far

To master such a tiny ball ...should not be very hard at all

But my desires the ball refuses ...and does exactly as it chooses

It hooks and slices, dribbles and dies ...and even disappears before my eyes

Often it will take a whim ...to hit a tree or take a swim

With miles of grass on which to land ...it finds a tiny patch of sand

Then has me offering up my soul ...if only it would find the hole

It’s made me whimper like a pup .... and swear that I will give it up

And take a drink to ease my sorrow

...but the ball knows, I’ll be back tomorrow

Golf Facts....

The National Association of Short Adults says that playing golf makes you shorter! There is scientific proof that a player shrinks .01 inches during an 18 hole round because the player's spine in constantly compressed when he is upright for several hours straight. That means that after 7,200 rounds, a six-foot golfer should completely disappear! ( And we thought all along it was old age that was shrinking us!)
