Help on Downloading Adobe Acrobat Reader

This download is a one-time necessity for those that do not already have Adobe Acrobat Reader on their computer. To begin the download process, we need to go to the appropriate web site by entering the following address into your internet browser, or by simply clicking on the link: http://www.adobe.com/
Under Support click on the link “Download Acrobat Reader”
Under Welcome click on the link “Adobe Portable Document Format”
Under “Downloads” click on the link “downloads” or “downloads help” to get help.

or just go to the link: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/main.html

Once on the Adobe web site, you are asked to complete a three-step process as follows:
1. Select the desired language and Windows operating system.
2. You may also request to download the version that allows searching of the Adobe Acrobat Reader data files, ".PDF" files, plus other features. Without this optional feature, the download is 8.6MB; with it, it is 13.4MB. Note that these features are not required for our use, but are useful features in general.
3. Click on the download button to begin the actual downloading process.

After a several seconds, a new downloading window will appear asking if you want to open the file or to save it to disk. For simplicity, I suggest that you "open" the file. After making your choice, another window immediately opens showing the status an initial 1 minute download; then another window will open indicating the status of the real download. If you elected to download the version including the search feature, it will take about 45-60 minutes total to download the file using a 56KB modem; it will take about 25-30 minutes otherwise.

After the program download has completed, it will automatically begin to install in a manner similar to the installation of any other program. Respond "Yes" to the license agreement. You may also redirect the location on your computer system disk where the program will be loaded if you choose; if you are not sure, use the default location. When the installation is completed in less than one minute, you will see a new icon on your desktop that you may use to run your newly installed Adobe Acrobat Reader.

(Note that if you elected not to "open" the file but to "save it to disk" then it is necessary to manually execute the downloaded file to begin the installation.)
